The modular monocoque carbon frame features airfoil-shaped tubes, a rear-wheel cutout in the seat tube and internal cable routing to give you an aero advantage for more speed.
Up front, Kestrel's carbon fork smooths the road and lets you carve the corners with ease while dropped onto the aero bars or sprinting on the wings.
Shimano's reliable 105 components provide super smooth shifting and solid braking, while the Oval wheels spin quick and true. And, you get a svelte carbon seatpost and a whole suite of Oval's exceptional components.
MATERIAL- Carbon is the backbone of every Kestrel-it has been since 1986. Kestrel uses two grades of carbon: 700K & 800K.
The 700K is all muscle. Less resistant to bending, it's utilized in high-stress areas to reduce flex.
And the 800K adds finesse. The lighter of the two, it's utilized in lower stress areas to achieve the lightest possible overall frame weight. Each model employs a unique blend of these two fibers to create a powerful yet light weight bike.

Strengths:
Very polished, rides true. Came in just under 20 lbs including pedals with the 105 group set. For the new 2013 model, Oval 327 wheels are much improved over the Oval 524's from prior year. Smooth shifting, good looking. 2013 color is white on black. Over 250 miles, no issues. 2013 version has the blended carbon of 700K & 800K. Previous year version was 700k carbon only. The 2013 105 group set is clearly high value in this price range. The 327 Wheels are standard on Fuji Bikes that retail for $3000. I'm big guy , right at the max weight limit of 275 pounds - this bike handles me with ease - plenty of stiffness, efficient power transfer. Down in the Georgia flat lands near Savannah, I was easily cruising at 18/19 mph. Full carbon frame, with a heavy duty bonded rear triangle that let you maximize your power transfer with little flex. Excellent carbon frame for us Clydesdale ( cyclists over 200 pounds)
Weaknesses: Needed to upgrade the brake calipers to the 105's ( especially with my weight when going downhill). Also upgraded the tires to gatorskins, since i really do not like dealing with flats every month or so. The point is you will always be making upgrades as you see the need - but you have a great base to build from and upgrade over time.
Bottom Line:
Great entry level full carbon bike at very modest investment. You will be hard pressed to find a better value. A well deserved 5 stars. One more point - the bike has a unique and very aerodynamic frame. When Kestrel started the carbon bike industry in the 80's, they hired military aerospace engineers, that's why even today, they offer a limited lifetime warranty on their frames and forks ( excludes crashes obviously).

MSRP is $1,550! this is the shimano 105 version, saving of $200. A great bike and better color than 2012 version.

I really like this bike its light and yet very sturdy. The time peramiter that was promised , was right on . The only thing that was missing from my box was the promotional Sunglasses, they didnt come with it as promised. They were missing. I will absolutly still recommend Amazon and will use in the future.
